Do I Have To Try Out?Yes, we host tryouts in the beginning of the fall semester over the course of 3 days. For more information about tryouts, please check out our prospective members page. There are no regulations or set requirements for joining the team - but most of our members have swam competitively for a few years in the past. That said, we encourage everyone from all swimming backgrounds to try out!
-
How Competitive Is The Team? Our team experience can be as competitive as you want to make it! We strongly encourage everyone to go to practice, train on “off days,” and compete in as many meets as possible. Most of our athletes have a goal of making College Club Swimming National Cut Times.
-
What Is The Weekly Time Commitment? When Are Practices? We strongly encourage everyone to go to practice, train on “off days,” and compete in as many meets as possible. We have 3 organized swim practices a week. Mondays: 7:30-9:30pm in Student Recreation Center Pool Wednesdays: 7:30-9:30pm in Student Recreation Center Pool Fridays: 2:15-3:45 pm in Student Recreation Center Pool We also plan different social events as a team (like getting late-night dinner together, going hiking, bowling, etc.) throughout the week.
-
What Does A Typical Practice Look Like?Practices typically range from 2,800-4,000 yards. We have various time intervals for different lanes and will create different practices for different groups of swimmers (ie. distance vs sprint vs IM) depending on what is needed!
-
Is Practice Mandatory? We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to go to as many practices as you can! Of course we understand that life happens - but going to practice ensures you make the most out of our team. Coming to practice will help you reach your goal times/National Championship Meet times, bond with the team, and build team unity!
-
Are There Coaches? We do not have “coaches” but we have an amazing Executive Board that works to schedule and organize practices, meets, team bonding events, facilitate helping swimmers with their technique and stroke work, and more. We also have many experienced swimmers on the team that are more than happy to help!
-
Do You Get Together “Off Of The Pool Deck?”Of course! We are a family! Outside of the pool, we go hiking, bowling, get ice cream, go to sports games, host movie nights, have different seasonal get togethers, and more other fun social events! UConn Club Swim is also a HUGE supporter of Connecticut Children’s Hospital and HuskyTHON. We also participate in other events individually outside of UConn! In the past we have had swimmers swim 15.5 miles across Long Island Sound to raise money for St. Vincent Hospital’s oncology programs, compete in the the USA Swimming Open Water Eastern Zone Championship, and even participate in triathlons! (For more information about HuskyTHON and our other events, please see our "News" page!)
